As part of the mission entrusted to the Hemp European Hub by the Syndicat des Eaux d’Alsace and the Eurométropole de Strasbourg, we continue our work supporting the development of a local hemp ecosystem.
This approach reflects a strong commitment to:
- supporting sustainable agricultural practices,
- promoting local market outlets,
- fostering a coherent ecosystem around hemp, from production to processing and use.
And this early summer has been particularly eventful.
1. A promising agricultural trial
Last April, 5 hectares were sown as part of a trial aimed at observing the behavior of two hemp varieties under local conditions.
The results observed so far are particularly encouraging. With growth of around 5 cm per day, the hemp is growing almost visibly — much to the delight of the farmer running the trial, who appreciates a plant capable of smothering weeds on its own. A real asset for biodiversity, and for his peace of mind!
2. A discussion session on hemp cultivation
The farmer responsible for the trial hosted on his hemp plot, a meeting for local farmers located in areas designated as “Water” priority zones. This friendly exchange, led together with a technician from Planète Chanvre, explained the agronomic value of this low-input crop, its technical growing cycle, and discussed its prospects for local development.
3.The company CHANVR’EEL awarded a 2026 Water Trophy
Chanvr’eel has for several years been contributing to the development of an “organic, local hempseed” sector in Alsace to protect water resources, capture CO₂, and support biodiversity, with the ambition of scaling up this sustainable crop. It was honored in May 2026 with a Trophée de l’Eau (Water Award).
This distinction highlights the relevance of a local hemp industry, capable of addressing agricultural, environmental, and economic challenges alike, and shines a light on the quality of the projects already underway locally.
